OPPOSITION TO THE RECALL OF HUMBOLDT COUNTY D.A. PAUL GALLEGOS

June 2003

• WHEREAS, the recall process should be used to address malfeasance in office, not political disagreement;
• WHEREAS, the current recall action against the Humboldt County District Attorney represents a poor and inappropriate use of scarce county financial resources in a time when citizens are losing vital services and county employees their jobs due to the county s difficult financial situation;
• WHEREAS, the District Attorney has filed over 23% more violent felony cases in the first four months of 2003 than his predecessor did in the same time period in 2002;
• WHEREAS, this clearly indicates the District Attorney is tough on crime and effective in the performance of his duties;
• THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Humboldt County Democratic Central Committee opposes the attempt to recall the District Attorney and expresses it s confidence in his ability to do his job; and
• BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Humboldt County Democratic Central Committee communicate this resolution to all appropriate bodies.
