Patrick Riggs, Chair of the Humboldt County Democratic Central Committee, was recently appointed to be one of the five Co-Chairs of the State Platform Committee for the 2005-2007 term. This appointment, made by the State Democratic Party Chair, Senator Art Torres (Ret.), carries State Executive Board membership with it. That doubles Humboldt County’s voice on the State Executive Board. “2 out of about 250,” Riggs joked, “We’ll be taking the place over in no time—Watch out LA! “

At the State Platform Committee’s first meeting of the term, Riggs was also appointed as the Plank Chair to supervise rewriting the Education plank of the State Democratic Platform for 2006. “Patrick’s many years experience as a classroom teacher and an officer in the California Teachers Association gives him solid qualifications for this position,” said colleague Jim Williams.

Riggs is also working on redrafting the plank for Sustainable Communities. Comments on these issues are welcome from any Democrat.
